What really stands out to me is the shift in venture capitalism from companies that require huge investment and can generate huge amounts of high-margin money (Amazon, Facebook, Google, etc) to companies that are operating in low-margin businesses where profit has to be earned one dollar at a time. To my naive eyes, the only similarity Uber has with the innovators of the past is that it uses tech to disrupt an established market and it promises phenomenal growth. But the profit equation seems murky at best.
