The idea of an open source Access (even just the front-end design tools) that could run on other platforms like Mac OS and Linux, is exciting. Microsoft is really protective of their Windows-specific codebases, so it seems a shade less likely than impossible. But I never expected them to open source .NET either, so who knows!
