Stephen Pinker has some fascinating stuff about different dialects (which you may already be familiar with). Basically, he explains how established dialects (for example, English as spoken in Trinidad) are consistent in their grammar “violations.” In other words, they aren’t sloppily breaking grammatical rules, but closely following a different set of conventions, and so equally correct in that framework.
