Node and npm were huge in driving the transition to a mature, modern programming ecosystem — no doubt! However, I feel that once Google blazed the trail by building those first incredible JavaScript apps, the fix was in. We knew what was possible. The developer world was going to get there somehow. The path ended up going through Node and npm, but if it weren’t for these tools I think something else would have been cobbled together to bind all the pieces together.
