Kimberley Payne, thank you for this! I am not personally a believer (but I do hope you are right). However, it has always bothered me when people are asked to believe purely for their own benefit (“if you believe, you will be rewarded”). I do believe that there is much more meaning to our faith traditions than that, and a god that exists only to gratify our own interests is nothing but an idea we’ve made in our own image.
