I’m so sorry to hear that. Sometimes it seems like part of the reason people feel such fear and anger about the idea of a shadowy predator stalking the streets and abducting kids is because it’s — in some part — a reaction of guilt and denial. It’s so difficult for so many people to admit that trusted friends and family can engage in abuse, and it’s easier to focus on the imagined threat of a stranger and ignore the problems that are closer to home.
