I should have been clearer about this. When I write “death toll” I am talking about the number of deaths attributed to coronavirus, which is likely undercounted, and almost certainly not overcounted. (In the Fox News segment I mention, Carlson suggests that if, say, 1,000 people are deemed coronavirus fatalities, maybe the real number is just 800 — which is hard to value as anything more than wishful thinking.)

But yes, the mortality rate is definitely skewed higher by the many asymptomatic cases that are not reported, which means coronavirus is not as lethal as some people suggest it is.
