I did ask ChatGPT for sources for its inaccurate claim, and ChatGPT apologized for the mistake. But I also tried asking it for the sources of different, legitimate points, and it also retracted and apologized for some of them, so... I guess it's a wash?
Side note out of curiosity: do you use Perplexity? I found it acceptable for reporting on the news and finding information about specific subjects, but not very good at extracting less widespread information. I tried a few queries asking it to find local AI education programs and their cost, and it would often tell me, incorrectly, that the information wasn't included online. It also failed at the kind of task a human could do--for example, finding only courses of study appropriate to a beginner or others for a professional with a computer science background.
