Here’s an example of a worksheet with shapes.

What you describe is something that I’ve heard a lot of people experience, based on how they visualize concepts. It can be frustrating because what seems perfectly ordinary to one person may make about as much sense as “add apple plus pine comb” to another person (at least that’s how a teacher friend once described it to me!).
