As I understand it, she wrote one of the seminal books of so-called “new vegetarianism” in the 70s (The Vegetarian Epicure), and I think she was trying to break the mold a bit in this more contemporaneous book. But the title does seem old-fashioned compared to something like Ottolenghi’s Plenty, for instance, which is about vegetables but doesn’t need to warn you about it.

That said, Love Soup is all vegetarian and that detail is almost beside the fact because it’s all good soup! I’m partial to the Roasted Kabocha Squash and Celery Root soup (something about the flavor of roasted turnips in the mix, which I’d never enjoyed before). If you don’t like pureed soups, The Great Pumpkin Soup or White Bean and Garlic Soup with Greens are good choices.
