A good point, but what exactly is the problem? If the problem is just the content & apps kids access, then we can steer them better by controlling what they see. But if the problem is the dozens of bad habits smartphones encourage — mindless checking of likes and statuses, tuning out of conversations to retreat into a private “me” world, fragmenting attention and encouraging us to into gameified digital interactions instead of longer-term activities — then we have to learn how to control ourselves, which is much more difficult. Even as an adult, I’m often a poor smartphone use.
